Description
Bonviva, in its injection form, is prescribed for post-menopausal patients who are diagnosed with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a bone disorder that is marked by low bone density and increased disintegration of the bone matrix. The fragile bones then have a higher risk of breaking compared to healthier and stronger bones. Some of the major causes of osteoporosis are genetics, advanced age, and gender. Post-menopausal women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis because the reduced production of estrogen and the subsequent lower level of estrogen will cause more bone cells to be resorbed without an increase in bone production. This results in a net loss of bone density and higher risk of osteoporosis
